ESD failure signature in capacitive RF MEMS switches

چکیده
RF MEMS are commonly known as electrostatic devices using high electric field for their actuation. They can be exposed to transient voltages in any environment, and are very sensitive. According to this point of view, it is necessary to understand and analyze the degradations and failure criteria that can make them useless or reduce their lifetime. This paper deals with the investigation of ESD failure signature in capacitive RF MEMS. ESD experiments were carried out using a transmission line pulsing technique. It has been observed that electrical discharges give rise to sparks or electrical arcing and induced DC parameter shift, which can directly lead to changes in RF metrics. The contact-less dielectric charging effects of ESD pulses have been reported in this paper. It has been found that induced charges are predominant compared to injected ones through the trend of slope of the shift in the voltage corresponding to the minimum of capacitance. 2008 Elsevier Ltd. Design and simulation of a RF MEMS shunt capacitive switch with low actuation voltage, low loss and high isolation
According to contact type, RF MEMS switches are generally classified into two categories: Capacitive switches and Metal-to-Metal ones. The capacitive switches are capable to tolerate a higher frequency range and more power than M-to-M switches. This paper presents a cantilever shunt capacitive RF MEMS switch with characteristics such as low trigger voltage, high capacitive ratio, short switchin...

متن کاملA Mim Capacitor Study of Dielectric Charging for Rf Mems Capacitive Switches
MIM capacitors are considered equally important devices for the assessment of dielectric charging in RF MEMS capacitive switches. Beside the obvious similarities between the down state condition of RF MEMS and MIM capacitors there are also some important differences. The paper aims to introduce a novel approach to the study of dielectric charging in MEMS with the aid of MIM capacitors by combin...

This paper analyses the mechanical behaviour of various suspensions of electrostatically actuated RF MEMS switches. A family of capacitive switches is described, with suspensions varying step by step from cantilevers to meander shaped double clamped beams. The result is a capacitive shunt switch with a designed actuation voltage of 4.5 V, and 20dB isolation and 0.04 dB insertion loss at a fre...
